My parents were in Rome and Venice back in February. They said you take your life into your own hands each time you cross the street, because people drive fast, and a few inches is enough clearance to drive past you.

So I guess the advice is, look both ways, then run.

But I have not been, so I don't know. I can't remember if it was Venice or Rome where they said the driving was crazy.

The only difference in the major cities I've been in here in the U.S. (Los Angeles, Las Vegas) is the streets are wider and the cars are bigger. Many drivers still don't think (or care) that I might be a bit scared if they try to drive "just" past me as I cross the street.
